Even though I associate getting my ears pierced with being 10 years old and hanging out anxiously at Claire's in the mall, I can't help but wondering if it's worth adding to my four-gem collection 20 years later. Lately I've been loving these pierced ears that have a smattering of dainty gold and diamond accents - both ladylike and cool at the same time. Maybe I'll just start with one... or two... or three...
three thousand nine hundred fifty - if i had that many extra dollars to kill , this is what i might spend it on. an english victorian insect ring made of emeralds, ruby and diamonds that longs to fly itself over and land on my finger, from the perpetually covetable erie basin. and here i thought i didn't like bugs.
headphones - what's the first word that comes to your mind? i'm going to go ahead and guess that the word you chose is probably not "sexy." i've been thinking about headphones more lately since my wire-loving kitties have now gnawed through several pairs of the things, and while some styles can be cool, they're often lacking a feminine touch (nor do they fit a feminine head). the brand frends, however, have created some seriously chic, classy, and downright good-looking headphones that any girl would be proud to wear. i love the white/metal combo which goes with anything, and the clean lines and delicate shape make them modern and fuss-free. now the real question is, do cats like the way the cords taste? see more from frends here.
with all of the minimal, geometric jewelry out there at the moment, it's rather refreshing to see something a little less structured, and these pendants from brooklyn-based fort are definitely doing the trick. the dripping, draped gold chains are reminiscent of knit fabric or chain mail, while the gems glow from the inside with a beautiful light. i'm sure there is a method to the way they are knotted together, but i love that they seem slightly haphazardly assembled. so pretty! pick up your own piece of dripping gold here.
i still have marble on the brain and this time it's manifesting itself in jewelry, specifically that of the extremely talented ms. kathryn blackmore, aka the vamoose. i have long appreciated the delicate and sophisticated touch she has with her design, and i love that even with an unusual (for jewelry) and rugged material like marble she is able to create pieces that still feel quite feminine and new. i'm struggling not to order it all! see more from her collection here.
living in a tall loft has its pluses and minuses. it gets great light, feels open and airy, and there's plenty of room to do jumping jacks, but when it comes to the ceiling, i can't reach it let alone think of hanging things from it - like awesome chandeliers. but if i had the right space, this SHY light by bec brittain would be my lamp of choice. i love how it "uses the spare beauty of thin LED tubes to define the edges of its shape; in this way the function of the piece is created by its form, and vice-versa." the construction of the light also allows it to be configured in any manner of ways. now i just need a really tall ladder. see more from bec brittain here.
what i love about searching through the art & antiques site 1stdibs is that every now and then you come across an item that leaves you totally flabbergasted. sometimes i look for inspiration and sometimes i look for fun, and today my moment of astonishment happened with this drop dead gorgeous medieval stirrup ring. made purely of gold and sapphire, this gothic ring dates all the way back to the 13th or 14th century(!) when it was likely worn by bishops alone. the unusual shape, the rustic engravings, and the peculiar setting of the stone completely intrigue me. it's uh, not exactly in the range for purchase, if you check the price, but even after all this time it serves as wonderful inspiration and a great bit of history. check it out here.
anyone that knows me knows i'm a huge fan of a cateye, and i'm always collecting images to see how i can jazz them up. but that top photo might be my favorite cateye yet - perfectly executed with just a hit of unexpected sparkle in the right places. definitely trying that for the next big night out!
